Book Week is the single most important nation- wide festival of books and reading with festivities that include author and illustrator tours and school and library presentations This year's launch was held yes- terday, Nov. 12, in the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver. {t is the first time that the Book Week launch has been held in Western Canada. The theme for Book Week is “Families ... Read Together" and it is organized by the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, a national non-profit organization dedicated to Promoting Canadian Children’s lit- erature, Over 100 authors und illustrators were in attendance at the launch. including Kit Pearson, Sarah Ellis, Richard. Library holds book sale NORTH VANCOUVER District Library will be holding its annual Giant Fall Book Sale on Saturday, Nov. 19, and Sunday, Nov. 20. As usual, there will be a huge selection of books and other dibrary materials that are no longer needed by the library, either because more current materials have been acquired or because the library no longer needs extra copies. A Speciat feature of this year's sale will be the large quantities of records; over the last few years the library been gradually phasing out the extensive record collection. Collectors will have a great opportu- nity to pick up some special items for 50 cents a disc. Hardback fiction books will also be going for 50 cents; adult non-fic- tion is $1, and paperbacks and mag- azines are 15 cenis/two for 25 cents. Smart buyers can pick up a two- for-the-price-of-one coupon at any district library or by clipping the coupon from the North Shore News. The sale will be held at the Lynn Valley branch, 1280 East 27th St. (beside Lynn Valley Centre).
