OLD MODELS MAY IGNITE

Fridge warning issued

OWNERS OF certain 13 cu.ft.,
two-door frost-free refrigerators
produced under the brand names
Westinghouse, RCA, General
Electric or Hotpoint are warned to
stop using them immediately
because they pose a possible fire
hazard.

Investigation of 15 incidents
revealed that an electrical connec-
tion inside the drip tray heater
deteriorates over a period of sev-
eral years and may overheat, caus-
ing the plastic drip tray to ignite.

This type of heater was used in
approximately 199,000
refrigerators built between 1968 to
1978. Models having the following
prefix numbers are involved:

Westinghouse (built from 1968
to 1976) RH313, RHJ21, RHK21,
RLJ2, RPJ3, RPK3, GJ21, RJJ3,
RJJ4, RJK3, RHI30L, RTI30L,
RTI30M, RTI30P, RTIZIP,
RT1I33P, RT135P, RT130R,
RT!31R, RTI32R, RT133R,
RT1I35SR, RFI3IR, RF133R.

RCA (built from 1972 to 1976)
KXDI13, KXGI113, KFC213,
KDF213, KFG2!3.

Hotpoint (built from 1977 to

THE NORTH Shore Neighbour-
hood House is sponsoring a one-
night lecture called Hew to be a
Home Environmentalist.

This talk is about changing your
lifestyle so that you can become a
conserver rather than a consumer.
You will learn practical tips on
recycling and using safe products
in your home.

The lecture is being led by An-
drea Miller, winner of the Home-
makers Award and the GVRD
Recycling Award. Miller has held
numerous in-home coffee parties
in which she has inspired many
people to begin recycling.

The lecture will be held Thurs-
day, Jan. 25, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

There is a $3 fee and partici-
pants are asked to pre-register as

qualified appliance service discon-
nect the drip tray heater. The drip

tray will then have to be emptied
manually at regular intervals.
