OLD MODELS MAY IGNITE Fridge warning issued OWNERS OF certain 13 cu.ft., two-door frost-free refrigerators produced under the brand names Westinghouse, RCA, General Electric or Hotpoint are warned to stop using them immediately because they pose a possible fire hazard. Investigation of 15 incidents revealed that an electrical connec- tion inside the drip tray heater deteriorates over a period of sev- eral years and may overheat, caus- ing the plastic drip tray to ignite. This type of heater was used in approximately 199,000 refrigerators built between 1968 to 1978.
