Vibrant art exhibited GERHILDE STULKEN’S fascination with color has inspired a new show at North Vancouver District Hall beginning tomorrow, Dec. 7. Stulken’s fields of vibraxt red poppies, colorful landscapes and ex- otic birds make up her solo North Vancouver exhibition. The German-born painter and former fashion designer says she uses bright colors te make people feel good. ‘‘With so much sadness and ugiiness in the world I would like to inspire a happy feeling when people look at my pictures... “ve worked with color all my life. I always encourage people to use color — it’s a very positive thing in life.” Mucb of her inspiration comes from nature — from her own backyard to larger landscapes. The Lynn Valley artist cun be seen, from time to time, snapping pictures of flowers and trees in her neighbors’ backyards. Her upcoming show, which continues until Jaa. 11, will be “very varied,’ with paintings of flowers, birds, landscapes and some still lifes. nnounces the The Avalon Hotel a return of its famous ... An order of Bar B-Q Ribs ($9.95) was also sampled. Portions were generous, but again, he barbecue sauce was not very interesting. The wee folk sampled Chicken Fingers ($2.99) from the Cheers’ Kids Korner menu. Chips and fingers were plentiful. One order would likely satisfy two tykes, but try to sell that concept to siblings at the table. My only complaint would be with the accompanying Chicken Finger sauce, {t was a creamy curry-flavored concoction that, in my opinion, was a touch spicy for juvenile palates. For dessert kids’ style try Jello In a Cloud (50 cents). The layered whipped cream and jello dish comes in a big showy glass that will impress but not overwhelm those with eyes perennially too big for their stom- achs. Cheers — ll give it three. Kate Bush — The Sensual World, Capitol Records 1989 She continues to be one of the most original and innovative voices on the contemporary scene.
