Speakers to address diabetes

A SPECIAL event has been organized for young
adults with type | diabetes.

The first annual diabetes day care centre young
adult conference and workshop will be held on Satur-
day, Oct. 14 at Lions Gate Hospital medical day cen-
tre.

Speakers on the agenda include Dr. Lynn Day, a
psychiatrist who is familiar with problems of diabetes,
Dr. A. Farquhar, family practictioner and marathon
runner, Dr. Mark Maloche, a UBC researcher on

pancreatic transplants, and Dr. J. Higgins who will
speak on funding of test strips.

Dr. Day will be joined by local actress Nicola
Cavendish for a session entitled Expressing Feeling.

Those interested are asked to register in advance by
Oct. 10. There will also be limited registration at the
door at 8:45 a.m. The event runs until 3 p.m.

The fee is $10 with financial assistance available if
necessary. Lunch will be provided. For further in-

Parents without Partners to meet

SINGLE PARENTS are invited to
attend the re-organizational
meetings of North Vancouver
Parents Without Pariners.

Meetings will be held at recCen-
tre Delbrook, north building, 600
W. Queens Rd., at 7 p.m. on
Monday, Oct. 16 and Monday,
Oct. 30.

Parents Without Partners is the
largest single parent organization
in the world. Local, regional and
zone staff will be in attendance to
answer concerns of single parents
and their children.

STEVE MCINTOSH of the B.C Ambulance Service recently pres-
ented Marlene Buck of Dave Buck Ford with a plaque for the car
dealership’s participation in the Ride of Your Life program. The pre-
gram is a special service run during graduation time which offers free
transportation to high school grads travelling to and from gradua-
tion events and parties, in order to reduce the occurrence of drinking
and driving incidents. Local car dealerships supply vehicles, gas com-
panies supply gas, and ambulance drivers donate up to three days of
their time to assuze the students have 2 safe graduation.
