What about the recycling depots now operating in) West Van- couver and the one that SPEC ran. successfully for several years in North Van {accepting sorted papers, bottles and tin cans)? In view of these ttmes of recession and unem- ployment, would if not be a compassionate gesture of those members running the pounds, to allow the animals to be picked up for .a small “fee? This humane gesture would, | feel sure, reap a harvest of good will from the public. The pounds don't exactly have a good name as itis, so how about letting the owners retrieve their pets. In my opinion, massive recycling of wastes is not a “heap of foreign philosophy” but a way of slowing down these two processes that con- tribute to the = rapid detenoration of our en- vironment.
