W. Valentine. Many individuals and groups who had worked to make the dream of a library in West Vancouver become a_i (reality attended = the ceremonies. There have been three major addi- tions to the original ; the first wing opened in January, 1957: a sec- ond wing, called the Jubilee Wing. was opened by Reeve Collier on May 31, 1962 The most recent expan. sion was officially completed on November 11. 1977, and was open. ed by the Hon Alan Williams and re. dedicated by the Rev W Valentine The onginal building opened in 1950 with 2.000 books and 4500 sq ft of floor space The present building of 26.000 sqft of floor space, houses over 100 000 books The children’s department has been named in memory of the tate Rosalind Watts who was a long-time member of the Library board and who had taken a keen interest in the children's ser vices The new seminar room tor board meetings and community use has been named the “Hizabeth Musto Seminars Room” after the first ctiet libranan who administered the West Vancouver Memorial Library trom its opening n 1950 to 1972 ti me Although the fibrary is centrally located, West Vancouver has a number of remote areas, which are served by a bookmobile.
