Users of Lions Gate
Bridge who became con-
cerned about the safety of
the route on reading an
atticle in the Vancouver
Express that engineering
tests made recently might
show. the bridge to be
beyond repair, will probably
have to wait another couple
of months before receiving
the officidl verdict.

But even at this stage, the
enginecring contractors are
expressing casual confidence
that. the tests are going to

time the bridge was given a
clean bill of health, as a
result of accelerated
corrosion being discovered
on a similar bridge in the

In spite of the cables
looking “almost like new
when unwrapped a couple of
weeks ago, samples have
been sent for laboratory
testing by a metallurgist.

Peter Buckland, of the
engineering contractors
Buckland and Taylor, says it
is unlikely the metallurgist’s
report will be released
during the next two months.
