It’s fun, and it’s exciting
but there are a number of
things to consider when
you’re buying a power boat.
So arrange your priorities
first.

Be selective. The Allied
Boating Association of Cana-
da says, “Do your home-
work.’’ It’s an important
purchase, and your dealer
will work with you to make
sure you’re satisfied with
your selection: After all, he
wants to stay in business and
he needs satisfied cus-
tomers.

The main decision is
yours. Be _ specific about
needs. Establish exactly
what you want, in speed,
power, capacity, stability,
range and economy. If you
are honest in your assess-
ment, it narrows down the
choices and directs all your
attention toward the boat you
need, want and can afford to

Power boats come in three
major groups. Outboard,
inboard, and inboard/out-
board -- which is a_ boat
equipped with an inboard
engine, coupled with a drive
train much like the lower unit
of an outboard motor. Within
each group is a wide range of
horsepower -- from ONE

475 . horsepower inboards.
When a manufacturer de-
signs a power boat, he has a
specific engine size or range
in mind. The whole boat is
shaped and built to accomo-
date and perform best within
a certain range of horse-
power.

Within each of these
power groups are many
different types of boats --
open runabouts and utilities,
cabin cruisers, fishing boats,
pontoons, houseboats, racing
boats, deep water cruising
