» d Run for Research returns THE FOURTH annual Lions Gate Medical Research Foundation Run **4’* Research is set for May 28. Money raised by the run, co- sponsored by the North Shore News and other businesses, will go to support medical research on the North Shore, which has included geriatric, kidney and diabetes research, and evaluations of Palliative and acute care treatment for cancer patients and others. “All the money (raised by the run) stays in the community,’’ said event organizer Jeannette Savard. Last year, 355 walkers and run- Mers raised $15,000. Because a number of features have been add- ed to this year’s race, Savard is hoping to more than triple that figure to $50,000. This year’s race will also include a swimming event, and organizers say they are concentrating on get- ting teams out to participate. A team consists of a minimum of four and a maximum of 10 run- ners. Individuals and teams may now sollect lump-sum pledges, and a prize will be awarded to the indi- vidual or team with the most pledges. The Run ‘‘4’”’ Research includes a 10-kilometre run, a 5-kilometre walk for those who prefer not to run, a 45-minute aerobics workout and a one-hour swim. The run, which starts and finishes at the North Shore Winter Club, includes all categories: men’s, women's, junior, open, masters’ and senior prize categories. Entry forms may be obtained from the North Shore Winter Club, the North Shore News, all Lady Superstar Stores, and from the Lions Gate Medical Research Foundation office at Lions Gate Hospital (call 984-4222 for infor- mation).
