Actions speak volumes fo kids

Dear Editor:

I was struck by the irony of the coverage on
page 5 of the Nov. 4 North Shore News.

On the same page there is a photograph of
four kids holding candles in their effort to
raise awareness of violence, as well asa story of
youths out of control on Halloween nigh

How is it that children can have s
fering values towards people in our

acts of violence and disrespect?

It's too bad certain individuals who have

no respect for other people, their property
and their teclings can have such a Large audi-
ence.

Their actions are often the ones in’ the
news, and they shape a biased image for oth-
ers.

Parental guidance plays a big roll in teach-
ing values, but we all need to take an active
role in showing respeet-and caring within our
community,

We teach our children, as well as others
who are observing, as much by our actions as
with our words. ‘
