West Vancouver munici- pality currently leases the famous biue buses from the province. Boname said the contract with BC Transit will be trans- ferred to the new GVTA. “That’s in the terms of the agreement,” she said. According, to the mayor, Blue Bus users will notice “no real change within the next little while.” But Boname looks forward to West Vancouver's being able to take more control of its transit system. “We can’t do a thing on our own. We can’t even set up a new route in West us system te remain intact WEST Van Mayor Pat Boname ... “I don’t want to see anything change.” Vancouver,” she said. Boname_ illustrated her point by describing how a potential minibus service to Lions Gate Hospital could not be instituted. She said BC Transit did not deem the ser- vice a high priority, “so we never got it. So maybe years down the ine that will now be possible.” Meanwhile, the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) will proceed with plans to ratify the newly approved transportation agreement. The next step will be the appointment of a steer- ing committee thar will over- see the transfer. As for West Vancouver's next move, Boname said she is still prepared to take direction from council on the matter despite last week’s brouhaha. “I just don’t like being bullied,” she said shortly after the incident. “I just have to make up my own mind.” The mavor recently locked horns with council members over the transportation issue and her duties as GVRD rep- reseniative. Despite her state- ment that she would be keep- ing an “open mind,” Boname nonetheless voted against the transportation proposal, thus fulfilling council’s directive. “Evervone was certainly aware of West Vancouver's feelings and our conditions,” she said. Boname said that flexibility is a necessary part of being a GVRID representative. “... we're supposed to go (to a meeting) with an open mind and if we show thar we're biased in some way then there could be a public hear- ing.” She said hes flexible stance on the transportation issue was needed in case the province came in with a differ- ent proposal at the 1 Ith hour. Boname said she appreciates all the work that council members did regarding trans- portation governance: “It’s really important to commend those members of my council who did point out the flaws because that got everybody thinking.” he House of Essence is now FACTORY FATON aE te Entrance in fear lane © Men Sat. 1-89 Sunday 12-5 pm "Bay i GET | ERE?
