Councillors have received thousands of letters and phone calls from concerned citizens. A signed petition from over 10,000 peapte opposing big box retailers has also been pre- sented to council. Williams said he was “as startled as those who attended (the town ball meeting last week},” by Larco’s attitude regarding its land being in “another jurisdiction.” Park Royal South sits on Squamish Band land. It has been iffens Larco’s position that the Squamish Band has given its for the development. A letter from: Harold Calla, di finance and co-chairman of the Squamish Nation Economic Development Committee, supports that position. Williams says this is wrong. “Larco has said the Squamish have indicated their willing- ness to go along (with the development), but approval is the right word because there was no power to disapprove. Added Williams: “In view of the inflexible position which was displayed by the Larco representatives last Monday night, I don’t believe thar any expression of disapproval would have affected them one bit.” Wittiams said Larco’s traffic plan is unacceptable and com- ‘self-serving. s far as anyone else was concerned, they couldn’: care See Coun. page 3
