Supporters of the blind honored

THE NORTH Shore White Cane
Club awarded three certificates of
merit at their Feb. 5 meeting in
recognition of longtime support fo
blind and visually impaired per-
sons on the North Shore.

The certificates were awarded
to:
1) The Lions Gate Chapter of
the IODE, whose members held a
Happy Day Tea once a month
from 1960 to 1979. Since 1979,
they have aided the White Cane

Club by providing an annual Jun-
cheon in February, an afternoon
tea in June and helping at a picnic
in Stanley Park in July.

2) The North Shore Optimist
Club, who in 1976 offered to
share half the cost for blind bowl-
ers to bow! once a week at North
Shore Bowi. The Optimist Club
provides an annual dinner for the
bowlers and their guides and
sponsors a fun bowl at the end of
the bowling season.

3) Tom Humphreys, who in
1984 volunteered to be a driver
for the blind. Since that time he
has driven once a month for the
White Cane Club and for the
handicraft classes which meet
three times per month at St. An-
drew's Church hall.

Tom also makes the wooden
bases for the baskets and trays
made by the class members. He
also acts as treasurer.

WATERMAIN CLEANING

The City and District of North Vancouver will commence
a watermain cleaning program in the Keith-Lynn area. The start
date is Tuesday, February 18, 1992 and will take approximately
eight (8) working days to complete.

The area affected will be Keith Road north to E. 14th St.
and from West Boulevard to Mountain Highway. Homeowners
will be given advance notice of service interruption shutdowns.
Some areas may experience more than one interruption of the
water supply. Water shutdowns will normally occur during work-
ing hours.

You are requested not to use any water during the day on
which your address is affected as this may cause a blockage
to occur in your regulator.
