WV historical art shown

A SPECIAL exhibit of 20 paintings by successful entrants in the re-
cent historical art competition in West Vancouver will be featured in
the West Vancouver Memorial Library gallery for the rest of October.

The four top winners — Unity Bainbridge, Dawn Garrett, Ross
Penhall and Norma Sorensen — will also all have shows in the gallery
curing 1988.

Cap cello instructor named

PRINCIPAL CANADA West Chamber Orchestra
cellist John Doerksen has been appointed as the
Suzuki cello instructor at the Capilano College Com-
munity Music School.

A longtime freelance cellist, Doerksen is a member
of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra and the Vancouver

String Trio and has played frequently with the Van-
couver Symphony Orchestra and the CBC orchestra.

Doerksen has taught cello in Winnipeg, Boston,
Thunder Bay and Vancouver, and his students have
won scholarships to the Banff School of Fine Arts and
the National Youth Orchestra of Canada.
