Wildlife thrills on Island|T

THE KILLER whale jumped, turned and landed with
its massive bulk against the water. A plume of salt
spray rose up, obscuring the mighty mammal from
sight.

In the protected waters of Robson Bight, killer
whales come to spend their summer and rub against
the numerous barnacle-encrusted sandstone forma-
tions.

With a resident population of 12 pods, the 135-
strong killer whale population is an attraction that
lures visitors to this remote Vancouver Island spot.

‘While boating regulations in the area are strict,
commercial tour boats can get close enough to the
killer whales to afford watchers a perfect look.

Dall’s' porpoises, minke whales, bald eagles,
seabirds and stellar sea Jions share the limelight with
the killer whales for a perfect day’s outing.
