Tankers stop forest fire THREE AIR tankers from B.C. Forest Service were called to a forest fire on one hectare of land above the Squamish Highway, north of Horseshoe Bay, Saturday. Resource protection officer Jack Kouwenhoven said officials were initially concerned about the fire spreading to nearby Cypress Park. He said the use of air tankers, from Abbotsford Air Base, prevented this from occurring. He said one of the tankers spen¢ 82 hours on the fire, which was believed to have been caused by transients lute Friday evening. Kouwenhoven said beer cans and a newspaper were found in what he described a5 a rugged and dry area. He said it was probably cone of the most difficult terrains, because of the ‘eep hill and numerous boulders, for workers to fight the blaze. West Vancouver District Fire Department and West Vancouver Parks Board were also involved in the call to the blaze, which lasted until Sunday around 5 p.m. Party pooper gets injured AN UNWANTED party guest swung at the host but missed, and his hand went through a window. The incident occurred at a house party around midnight Aug. 27 in the Altamont area of West Vancouver, Police were called earlier that evening to the home and helped disperse some of the uninvited guests, but an 18-year-old North Vancouver youth returned and started a fight with the compl!ai- nant, After putting his hand through the window, the youth was rush- ed to hospital with a severely cut weist. West Vancouver Police say the youth faces a mischief charge. Trial set for assault A 24-YEAR-OLD North Vancouver man appeared in provinciat court Friday to answer charges of assault. Otto Kemper was charged with one count of assault in connec- tion with a May 5 incident. Also charged with Kemper is 36-year-old Roseline Pillay. Pillay is charged with two ‘counts of assault following incidents May 5. Appearing before North Vancouver provincial court Judge P.L. Maughan, Kemper was remanded to stand trial on Nov. 13. Pillay’s case was struck off Friday's court list, bu¢ the woman will be resummoned to face the charges at a later date. Car tires get slashed THE TIRES of 16 cars parked on a North Vancouver City street were punctured by vandals. The cars were parked on the west side of St. Andrews Avenue, between Third Street and 10th Street, Aug. 22 around 3 a.m. North Vancouver RCMP estimate the damage costs at over $3,000. Police reported a group of youths were heard to be in the area around the time of the vandalism. Anyone with more information is asked to coniact the police at 985-1311 or Crimestoppers at 669-TIPS. Auto charges pet trial CHARGES OF careless driving have wheeled a North Vancouver man into court. Charles Howard Gould, 35, was remanded for trial Friday charged with one count of driving without due care and one count of driving without reasonable consideration of others. Gould was charged after being stopped while driving along Mount Seymour Parkway Jan. 21. Appearing before provincial court Judge P.L.
