Spring yarns ang patterns have arrived. hits everyone PAGE 39 Porter, a 21-year-old North Vancouver student, won a North Shore News contest after submit- ting the best Valentine-inspired classified ad for the paper's Feb- tuary 14 edition. ‘was going to do it anyways, but because there was a contest I put a little more effort into it,’ sire said. ‘I was really thrilled to win.”’ Porter's prize included one-night accommodation at the Vancouver Hotel, flowers from West Van- couver Florist, dinner and breakfast for two at the Timber Club and transportation to the hotel by Sunshine Cabs. Porter's winning entry was chosen from more than 100 published Valentine’s Day messages. Her Valentine read: Most of us go through life harried And consider we've carried But Eve planned for drummer A surprise for this summer the burdens my mare News Words straight from the heart JENNIFER PORTER and her fiancee Craig Scott enjoyed a second Valentine’s celebration Wednesday. July 26th, we're getting mar- ried. Porter said she had planned to announce the marriage date in the paper since January, but wrote the fimerick the night before the con- test ended. The two have dated for the past two years, after meeting at work. Both were performing with a jazz band. She was the singer and Scott was the drummer. Porter is studying music at Van- couver Community College, and Scott is a full-time University of British Columbia student. They both continue to perform at local clubs in their spare time. “We're both really busy so it’s nice to take a break,”’ said Porter. She said the night’s highlight was enjoying a leisurely dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. “If we do eat out, it’s usually somewhere fast,'’ she said. Porter said she also appreciated the gift of flowers. But added Scott had sent her bouquets twice during February. “*He’s very romantic,” she said. BLIND FAITH...
