Al? - Sunday, June 17, 1984 - North Shore News Five year scheme for district AN $18 MILLION parks and recreation master plan will bring improvements to recreational facilities and parklands in the District of North Vancouver over the next five years. Unveiled at Monday's Council meeting, the long- awaited plan, in the works for two years, calls for in- créased access and usage of the waterfront, centralized community sports facilities, interconnecting footpaths and trails, and comprehen- sive multi-use recreational centres parks and recreation, range from $2.7 million in 1984, up to $3.7 million in 1988. Among the specific im- provement projects recommended for the District are the waterfront parkland areas of Lynn Creek and the Seymour River, an increase in access to Indian Arm, the development of street end viewpoints and access [to water in Dollarton, Deep Cove and Cove Chiff, in- creased moorage facilities in the Maplewood Centre, sports fields in Seymour, the completion of pathway corridors from Burrard Inlet to the mountains, and the conversion of the Sanitary Landfill into a park. District Parks Superintendent Dirk Oostindie says before any of the improvement projects can take shape, major design schemes will have to be undertaken.
