Several young swingers strolling out of the classy rendezous are in trigued by the six stylish young men and 10 fashionable, though obviously older, women who emerge from the chauffeured vehicles. “Those women must have moncy,” scoffs one cynical sophisticate. Not quite. What these 10 women do have is six sons or sons-in-law who decided that Moms’ Day in May is in- sufficient’ reward for. the ladies who loved them all their lives. The six men, all from West Vancouver and all in ther mid-30s. have beeen Inends since they were (cenagers. So have their wives “We thihk of our- selves as the dirty dozen,” said Susan Ogden, once of the six wives who stayed home wy that night. Nor are the moms and moms-in-law strangers to one another or to any of their six escorts. “The boys are all like our sons,” said Don Ogden’s” mother, Yvonne. “If our own sons weren't around, we could turn to any one of the others ina (ime of need.” The idea germinated when four of the men and their wives were dining at The Mansion on Davie Street and they got tg reminiscing about one of the fathers who had passed away. “We decided,” Bill north shore mews McEachnie explained, “that life is so short, we'd like to do something for our mothers.” It would be a surpfise, they’d split the entire bill six ways — and the sky was the proverbial limit. Two wecks later, two moms were flown out from Toronto, one from Kamloops and the stage was set for what was to be one of the best nights the 16 had ever spent. ~ Clad in “their finest and prinked with the corsage each received, the mothers were ready when the limos arrived. “That was the first surprise,” said Yvonne Ogden. “We knew we were going out and that we'd be picked up but that was all We had no idea where we were going.” First stop was The Mansion -—~ where none of the ladies. had ever been a It’s a whole different evening By CAROLE STAFFORD before. “We had our own room, the tables were set beautifully with a gardenia at every mother’s place — and what mother doesn't want a gardenia! “All the mothers were on a high — everybody was up,” Yvonne continued. “And all the ‘mothers looked lovely that night; it wasn’t what we wore so much as how we felt — radiant.” The wine was flowing and the food was ‘good, though Yvonne can't remember what she ate. “I think they could have = served us sauerkraut and weiners and we'd have enjoyed it.
