JUST when you think
it’s safe to walk the
streets again, the past
comes back to haunt

you.

Or so it seemed, when
Miss Wookie, an old high
school teacher, arrived at my
shop.

Buck Pincher was there,
berating my coffee, when
Miss Wookie marched in.
She hadn’t changed a bit
since high schuet; she looked
old then and hadn't gotten
any younger since.

“Buckford Pincher,” She
sneered, “are you still wast-
ing your life hanging around
shady establishments?” Buc%
spilled his coffee and ran to
find a towel.

I started to protest her
evaluation of my facility, but
she cut me off.

A test drive verified the
complaint.

about!” she hollered, glaring
at me. “They sound awful.
And it feels like I'm not stop-
ping. I thought anti-lock
brakes made you stop
faster!”

“N-not exactly,” I
gulped. “Anti-lock brakes
help you steer the car during
a sudden stop on slippery
surfaces. That noise you hear
is the solenoids turning on
and offas they regulate brake
fluid pressure.”

It was a common miscon-
ception. But though it takes

ability to steer around
objects, rather than slide into
them.

Miss Wookie was not
impress. “Well, [don’t like
it. Can you remove them?”

When I shook iny head,
she turned on her heel and
headed for the = door.
“Humph. Always knew you

With that she departed, but
not before catching Buck
hiding in the coffee room.

I was fuming. “Just
once,” I muttered, “I'd like
to prove | know something
she doesn’t!”

“Forget it, Slim,” said a
voice behind the door. “Let
the Wookie win. At least you
don’t have to stand here
undl the three o'clock bell.”
