new home and although you like
the layout, it’s not you. Maybe
you're just tired of your living
room.

In either case, where do you
start? You start with a master plan
— one that will help guide afl your
decorating decisions over the com-
ing months. The key element to
successful decorating is the master
plan.

First of all, determine how much
you can afford to spend on your
decorating. That figure will guide
you in your decisions about buying
new furniture, flooring, draperies,
or working with what you've al-
ready got.

Once that’s established, take a
good look at the room you're
redecorating. What is it used for?
How much traffic does it get? Is it
a Sanctuary or a room which will
welcome guests? Such questions
are important ones to consider
when choosing colors, floor cover-
ings, and wallcoverings.

Then, the three major elements
to start coordinating are the floor,

walls and the windows.

The floor, if you choose to
carpet it, will provide the greatest
expanse of color in the room.

The walls, whether painted or
papered, add the excitement to the
room. The wall treatment will
greatly. aid you in creating the ef-
fect you want.

The last of the three basic ele-
ments is the window treatment.

There is nothing, dollar for
dollar, that can do more for a
room than a beautifully designed
window treatment.

Decorating is, above all, ex-
pressive. Color and design create a
specific sensation in each of us.
Choose a basic color you feel com-
fortable with. Compliment it with
two other colors which coordinate.
Remember, there is no such thing
as a bad color, only bad combina-
tions of color.

the way — decorating your home
