The basic differences between shampoos formulated for various types of hair are the strength and concentration of the cleansing and foaming agents, conditioners and other ingredients used in the pro- ducts. How frequently you shampoo depends upon your hair type and the amount of soil, natural oif and residues of hair grooming products deposited on the hair shaft. Many people with oily hair safely wash their hair several’ times a week or even daily. The determining factor should be the feel of the hair and scalp as well as manageability. Shampoo formulations usually contain cleansing and foaming agents, conditioners, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives, colors and fragrances. The cleansing and foaming agents are the primary in- gredients that determine sham- poo’s performance. Additional in- gredients combine to improve the feel and appearance of hair after shampooing, provide a stable and consistent formulation, protect the product from bacterial contamina- tion and add a pleasant scent and color to enhance consumer appeal.
