North Vancouver Central won the tournament in four. straight games, which included an 8-4 win over Lynn Valiey, a 6-3 win over Forest Hills, a 7-5 win over Highlands and a 9-1 win over Forest Hills in the final. Pitcher David Earland had a two- and a three-hitter over Lynn Valley and Highlands while Steve (Rusty) Hatch had a five-hitter over Forest Hills and then com- bined with Jason Odegard to throw a one-hitter in the final. The tournament included a 10- inning game between Highlands and Forest Hills, four innings over the usual six. Forest Hills took a lead in the second inning and Highlands tied it in the fourth and it remained the same until Forest Hills scored two in the 10th inning to gain the victory. North Vancouver Central will now go to Prince George to com- pete in the provincial tournament where it will be coached by Earl Stinson and Don Ray. This tour- nament will commence Aug. | and will finish Aug. 10. The winner of this tournament will go to Trai! for the Canadian tournament Aug. 15 to 22. Coach Judy Aspinall will be T.V. color commeatator at the B.C. Games, and Simone Schultz will coach swimmers at the same meet. THE NORTH Shore Marlins finished first overall at the July 4 and 5 Ogopogo Invitational Swim Meet held in Kelowna. Coached by Pamela Rai and TENNIS TOURNEY _. SLATED THE WEST Vancouver Parks and Recreation Commission's third annual tennis championships are set to begin Aug. 15. The touraament is being held on the 28 public courts in West Van- couver and features competitions for juniors, adults and masters. The West Vancouver competi- tion includes eight mes’s singles events, five women’s singles events, nine doubles and mized events, and various age group divi- sions for girls and boys. There is also a special! ‘‘X’’ category for players who have never competed in @ tournament. All finals will be played on the West Vancouver Recreation Centre courts. Entries close Aug. 6. Further in- formation can be obtained at 926-8621. Philip Skinder, the team trains at the North Shore Winter Club. The competition involved 12 teams with swimmers ranging from six to 2}.
