A SECOND OFFICE TOWER by: the Capilano
River behind Park Royal is in the works and —
unlike its companion highrise, Kapilano 100 at the
southeast corner of the shopping, centre — this
one will be silver, not black.

Plans for the new
structure on the South Mall
were unveiled last week by
Peter Finch, president of
British Pacific Properties
Limited, and Dave Jacobs,
chairman of the Squamish
Indian Band council — on
whose land it will be located.

The formal unveiling
ceremony marked the
approval by the Indian band
of the plans submitted to it
by BPP.

The 13-storcy building will
be known as Kapilano 200
and will be about the same
height as the existing
Kapilano 100 office tower
and Park Royal Towers
apartments, said Jacobs. The
project will cost about $14
milhon.

The building will be
located south of Park
Royal's South Mall between
the Bay and Eaton's
department stores.

accommodation with a

restaurant and racquets club
at the plaze level There ts
also a low wing containing
offices and six residential

apartments.

The company’s previous
plans for additional office
buildings showed them
located close to Kapilano
100. A study of alternative
locations carried out by the
land and the company
confirmed that the best
location would be to the
south of the shopping centre.
This location has good
pedestrian access to the
South Mall, available car
parking and minimizes the
effect on traffic circulation
in the centre.

building. the Squamish
Indian Band council studied
the effect of the additional
development on traffic on
the adjoining municipal and
provincial roads

Blewett said the exterior
of the building will be faced
with silver-coloured mirror
giass which will subtly
reflect the changing colours
of the sky and the waters of
the Capilano estuary and
First Narrows beyond. The
choice of the exterior facing
not only respects the superb
setting of Kapilano 200 but
also reflects the highly-
efficient use of energy within
the building, he said.

“Whilst the faceted mirror
facing and the slimmer
profile will present a
different appearance to the
earlier apilano 100, a.
number of design
characteristics such as the
open base will be repeated to
maintain design continuity,”
said Blewett.

The land's approval is
subject to the building
meeting the National
Building Code and the
buildings by-laws of West
Vancouver municipality.
