The two Formula Ford pilots, Andy Mahood and Mike Clifford campaigned the event from the start of the first qualifying session early Sunday Both drivers achieved very low lap times, a mere second off the track record, and it looked as though the two would set times in the | min. 10 sec bracket during the qualifying race which would determine the gnd for the contest around this 1.8 mile course Clifford. who is sponsored by Kits Cameras- Vivitar, led Pentax Cameras sponsored Mahood for most of the qualifying race in the carly afternoon to put his Van Diemen RF 81 on the pole for the final event of the day.
