SIDELINES CAPILANO COLLEGE ATHLETICS The department of Athletics at Capilano Coliege announced last week the appointment of Lori Chizik as coach of the Women’s Varsity Basketball team for the 93-94 season. Chizik served as the assistant coach of the UBC women’s basketball team last season and is presentiy the head coach of the provincial under-17 all-star team. She is a past playing member of the national team, and has played and ‘coached semi-profes- sional basketball in Australia’s National League. Chizik replaces foriner head coach Alison Kent, who will ‘be furthering her education and coaching at Arizona State University this fall. CYCLING ... McCredie Sports Reporter The District 5 Junior All-Star tournament for 13-year-old boys wraps up this weekend at the Ambleside South diamond, with the two final teams qualifying for the provincial championships later this summer. On Sunday afternoon, under a beautiful blue sky, West Van- couver/Cypress Park took to the field against Lynn Valley, and though a 10-0 game sounds one- sided, good action was displayed by both teams. West Vancouver’s scoring came early and late, with the middle in- nings of the seven-inning contest highlighted by strong defence by both squads. However, nothing was decided as the game was call- ed after nine innings with the score tied at three. Lonsdale’s Dennis Burgess and the Cross’ Mike Scallion combin- ed to strike out 20 batters between them. Burgess helped his own cause by driving in two runs with a triple.
