colours, ribbed knits and sophisticated denim are among the looks for fail at Le
Chateau, featured in a “stop-motion” fashion show last weekend at Canilano Mall.

adult fashion trend

THESE days, children’s fashion mir-
-rors what’s hot in men’s and
women’s wear.

-. Kids tend to be adventurous when it comes
to fashion, says Rick Stefiszyn, fashion director
for children’s wear at Sears Canada.

Stefiszyn presents the top trends for back-
to-school that he says will earn top marks in
classrooms.

. For girls: The new bohemian — gypsy
turned fashionista is what this look is all about.
Glittering embellishments (beads, mirrors,
sequins), rich colours, shiny yarns and elabo-

tate patterns and textures ‘make this style -

unique. Skirts are in a handkerchief style.
Jeans with embroidered hems can be paired
with a bell-sleeve. top ina solid, paisley or ani-
mial- print, or. an embroidered blouse. The
hand-crafted look is in, so for sweaters, try a
crocheted wrap-around or a chunky knit.
Accessorize with } piles of crystal bead bracelets,
a béaded choker or gold chain belt. For cooler
- days, top.off this look with a ponciso or jean
jacket. :
:.For guys: Urban casual — Denim comes in
: “new finishes such as “dirty,” “sandblasted” and
“coated.” Pants are in a relaxed fit, moving
away from the baggier techno look. Vests are
the latest avay to layer. Tops are. soft .with
peached finishes. Knits are chunkier with ribs
or other textures.

For girls and guys: Techno style — An ath-
letic-based look inspired by extreme sports and
DJ culture, thar features trainers, techy fabrics,
Velcro and pull-cord closures. Wider pants
offer freedom of movement. T-shirts are fitted
with retro *70s-look logos. Cargo, zip or
Velcro pockets are available on pants, jackets
and tops. Jeans are looser fit, carpenter style.
For outdoor warmth: polar fleece. Accessorize
with metal frame sunglasses, rubber sport
watch and a messenger-style body bag.
