A dog fost both lower
hind limbs on Oct. 1
after. a B.C. Rail pas-
senger train ran over it
near 21st Strect and
Argyle in West
Vancouver.

North Vancuuver resident
Charles Curtis was running
with a fitness client on the sea-
wall after 7 am. when he
heard the animal crying out in
pain.

“{ heard this unnatural,
unpleasant howling sound,”
said Curtis, a personal fitness
trainer.

The dog's upset owner was
huddled over tie animal.

Bits of the Husky’s lower
limbs were scattered on the
tracks.

“Every minute or so the
dog tried ty get up and he
would howl,” said Curtis.

Curtis and other people
tried to help.

One person tied a sweater
araund the animal's legs.
Another person brought blan-
kets,

incident. as the train approached.
It was humanely killed. Its owner called it to come,
The four-year-old dog — but the dog didn’t move away
apparently became confused — from the oncoming train.

“We tried to comfort the
dog and the lady,” said Curtis.
West Vancouver Police Sgt.
Barry Nickerson said a veteri-

narian came and took the dog
to the pet hospital.
