Captain George Gerbrandt served in the Merchant Marines and after the War worked at logging, fishing and oit ex- ploration. McGECHAEN - Jolin, Professor Emeritus, UBL, passed away on May 16, 1992 after a leagthy illness. John had a long teaching career, starting in elementary and secondary schecls in the Vancouver asea, before joining the former Normal Schoof in 1950. He joined the UBC Faculty of Education in 1956 where he taught as a professor and chaired the English Education department until fetiring in 1976. John wrote many arti- cles and co-authored books used in Ca- nadian Schools. Predeceased by his wile Rose in 1990. John is survived by his loving family, brother Jim; son Sandy McGechaen and wife Patricia; daughter Ann Rittinger and husband Gordon; grandchildren Erin, Ryan and Heather.
