NEWS BRIEFS Victim identified THE NORTH Vancouver RCMP have released the name of the man who was beaten to death Oct. 24 in North Vancouver. The murder victim, 36-yeer-old Jovito Valducva Baguna of Bagong Sayan Das Marinas Cavite in the Philippines, was one of two sailors on shore leave in North Vancouver. Baguna and 35-year-old Danilo Crisostomo, of Caintarizal in the Philippines, were befriended by three men over the course of an evening spent watching a strip show at the Coach House Inn. They were offered a ride back to their ship but were instead driven to a forested area near 26th Street and Lloyd Avenue and assaulted. Crisostomo was robbed and beaten. Baguna attempted to escape the attack when he was killed. According to North Vancouver RCMP Spt. Randy Bennett, police have interviewed many of the patrons who were at the Coact House Inn on the night of the murder. Said Bennett, ‘“‘Our investigation is focused and is progressing positively."” Last week, police arrested three North Vancouver men in connection with the investigation. The names of the three have not yet been released. Thief sought A THIEF with a penchant for purses is opersting in West Vancouver, According to a. West Vancouver Police spokesman, a woman was walking in the south lane of the 1300-block Duchess Avenues st 5:25 p.m. on Nov. 12 when she was approached from behind. A man grabbed her purse and ran. The woman lost approximately $200. At about 3:55 p.m. on Nev, 10, a woman walking in the north lene of the 1400-block Fulton Avenue was ap- prouched from behind. The suspect grabbed her purse. The woman tost approximately $265. The suspect is described 2s being a male epproximately 20 years old, 180 centimetyes tall and weighing about 70 kilograms. The suspect was wearing a black nylon ski jacket. He had dark hair.
