46 - Sunday, October 13, 1991 - North Shore News Options for volunteers THE FOLLOWING is a selection of many volunteer opportunities available through North Shore Community Services (NSCS). A COUNSELLING service needs an organized receptionist with a good telephone manner to work in their office. The fours are flexible and orientation will be provided. DOG LOVERS! Make a dog happy and spend an enjoyable hour in the fresh air walking dogs for the SPCA. Volunteers under 18 years of age must be accom- panied by an adult. The hours are flexible any day between noon and 3 p.m. A VOLUNTEER who is mechanically inclined is needed to do odd jobs and fix wheelchairs at an adult daycare centre. Training will be provided and the hours are flexible. A GALLERY docent who is in- terested in art is wanted to serve a three-hour shift at a local gallery. The volunteer will greet the public and provide information about the gallery, the art and the communi- ty. The hours are from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or from 2 to 5 p.m. Train- ing and orientation will be pro- vided. _-AN INTERPRETER who is fluent in Russian, Yugoslavian, Chinese, Malaysian or Yiddish is needed to act as an interpreter for residents who are. located in various care facilities on the North Shore. A BRIDGE player is wanted to play bridge with seniors at a senior’s drop-in centre cn Tues- days at 1:30 p.m. A bingo caller with a clear voice is also needed. The hours are flexible. A MAIL delivery person is needed by a seniors’ lodge to distribute mail to residents’ rooms. A person is also needed to maintain an in-house library once per week. AN. ENTHUSIASTIC person who speaks English is wanted to play cribbage, checkers or cards with seniors on Thursdays from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Training and orienta- tion will be provided.
