Timothy Renshaw TABLE HOPPING Its location is perhaps symbolic ot all small businesses: trying to make a buck with the bank on one side and the bar on the other without having to resort to visiting either. lis menu is also fairly typical of small restaurants affecting a Mediterranean demeanor: pizza, pasta, souvlaki and pita bread. But Tanoor, which occupies the Lonsdale location formerly oc- cupied by Picasso’s and a subse- quent parade of assorted restau- rant variations, also offers its grow- ing clientele some pleasant ac- coutrements that are not always typical of restaurants of any size. The restaurant is run by a hus- band and wife team recently ar- rived from Montreal. They provide customers with a winning com- bination of warm and polite ser- vice and carefully made food in generous portions. Tanoor prices are low. Diners will be hard pressed to find any- thing over $10 on the menu. And the dollar value of the food served is good. On a recent visit, Table Hopping staff sampled an intriguingly nam- ed Penilry pirastuffed appetizer ($3.95). The selection resented pita bread stuffed with feta cheese, toasted, then brushed with butter. Souvlaki followed. Tanoor offers Snack ($6.95/ $7.95) and Dinner ($8.95/$9.95) options. Both souviaki sizes come with rice, Greek salad, pita bread and roasted potatoes; and both sizes make filling meals. 266-7767 7985 Granville St. 681-6302 608 Robson St. NEWS photo Cindy Goodman KEBAB’S your uncie...Ray Nejad presents a feast of kebabs at his Tanoor restaurant on Lonsdale. Tanoor features southern Mediterranean-style food. The snack souvlaki comes with one skewer of meat; the dinner souvlaki comes with two skewers. We sampled Prawn Snack ($7.95) and Beef Dinner ($8.95). The Prawn Snack included a half dozen grilled prawns. The two skewers with the Beef Dinner souvlaki were tightly packed with chunks of braised meat lightly brushed with oil and herbs. My only complaint was that the meat was a touch heavily salted for my palate. 8ean Around the World Coffee House, 1522 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, 925-9600. § don’t know how long Bean Around has been around, but | hope it stays around because the West Vancouver coffee house and dessert shop is excellent. lt offers the simple pleasures of GET INTO THE RIGHT GEAR AT THE RIGHT PRICE! 688-1077 710 Denman St. superb espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, steamed milks and delicious pies, cakes, sticky buns and cook- ies served in a relaxed West Coast bohemian atmosphere.
