The same night it was the
CJOR reunion at the Media Club.
The club is managed by West
Van waterfront dwellers Mary and
Jeff Snowball and it was packed
with North Shore-ites! First per-
son | saw was North Van’s Nancy
Walt and her dad, former G.M.
Don Wall. Don was one of
Canada’s first heart transplant pa-
tients and now lives in comfort in
Parksville. Properties resident
Jack Lee and wife, Joannie, were
there with the Sun’s Denny Boyd
and North Van’s Sen. Ray Per-
rault, reliving oid times in the
basement of the old Grosvenor
Hotel... North Van newsman
John Kendrick was feeling very
satisfied. He'd just met Britisher
Mark Ashton at the airport. Mark
was the bone marrow donor and
lifesaver of Surrey’s lithe seven-
year-old Sam Clark, an A-plastic
anemia sufferer. John had first
learned the story about Ashton
through his grandmother who
lives in England where it was
front page news. The story was
that after testing 10,000 potential
donors, Mark Ashton of London
was found to have the perfect
match. The grateful Clark family
had invited Mark and his family
to visit BC as their guests and
John had been there to greet
them... TV’s David Abbott, who's
departed from his job on CKVU
and has several other projects in
the works, was there with — his
daughter and sew mother, Ingrid,
and The Province’s Marlaina

exhibition of Attila Richard
Lukac’s works. CBC-TV's
Adrienne Clarkson flew in from
Toronto to interview the con-
troversial young artist as did
Maclean Magazine’s Associate Ed-
itor Pamela Young. As guests
entered, they were given dog tags
to wear while the Galiano Trio
played = stirring martial music

dressed in their traditional tuxedos
bur with camouflage hats, bow
ties and cummerbunds. The man
of the moment was in black and
wore gloves. Seems that Attila is
allergic to varathane. Even the
tiniest bit causes him to break out
in a painful rash. But he was feel-
ing no pain at the premiere. More
than half of the huge paintings
were sold before the exhibition
even opened!... Next Fri. it’s
Decorating Den's province-wide
“Dream Room" Contest at Lons-
dale Quay. Former hotelier,
Werner Schlick, will definitely be
