t was a grand and glorious Sunday evening at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver as the North Shore celebrited a very festive Christmas occasion! It was the fourth anaual North Shore Family Christmas Ball and it was the biggest and best yet. It was held in the huge ballroom which was beautifully decorated with cedar boughs, silver streamers and red and green balloons. More than 655 people showed Joy Metcaife tells calf... up in their finest to dine and dance throughout the evening. The wonderful thing about this gala affair is that it’s for the whole family, with mothers and fathers, children, grandparents and even aunts and uncles enjoying the festivities together. The organizers of the ball have also managed to keep it to a very reasonable $50 per person. And best of ali, the monies rais- ed from this merry-making event go to assist other less fortunate North Shore families. The evening began with a reception in the ballroom foyer where everyone gathered to meet and greet. The menu feature was roast prime rib which was preced- ed by Caesar Safad, and crowned with the parading of the Christmas Jubilee dessert aglow with dozens of sparklers. W.V.'s Acting Mayor Mark Sager was looking happier than ever. That’s probably because his best girl, Katherine Balmer, an execu- live with Merrill Lynch, just sur- prised him and said ‘yes’ to his marriage proposal. They'll wed some time next summer, either in june or July... North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks and his wife, Olive, who was in a soft coral blouse and patterned skirt, were enjoying the testivities with companions they'd just met. And no, the mayor and his wife did not trip the light fan- tastic. He'd danced himself out at 3 prior function. But he did say that he thought it was a great evening, wonderful and interesting table-mates, very good food, and he's really looking forward to next year's party, when he will be ready to dance the night away... Incidentally, Olive’s new outfit was a gift from their daughters... Another good-looking couple on the floor was the new Minister of the Environment, the Hon. John Reynolds and his glamorous wife, Yvonne, in deep green shisred satin, He was getting over his ex- haustion from playing in the Whistler Challenge Cup match at the Vancouver Lawn and Tennis club with tennis star, Bjorn Borg. Reynolds won most of his round robin battles and finally beat Borg 4-0. No wonder he was tired! This was a fundraiser for Bjorn’s new tennis school to be located in Whistler. John and Yvonne were joined at their table by son Mike and his wife, Liza, and son, Paul and his wife, Nicole, and her parents, juanita and Peter Ryan. Yvonne thought it was simply a wonderful party. Yhey danced all night long!... Looking very trim was Canadian Airlines International’s Labor Rela- tions Vice President, Judi Korbin, in black and teal.
