BUSINESS Lynn Valley Stong’ CHANGES MABE T@ SUPERMARKET THE RECENT official opening of the new Lynn Valley Stong’s supermarket brought plenty of changes to the food retail outlet. But some things have stayed the same. And the new store’s customers just couldn’t be happier according to Stong’s manager Mark Wareham. business briefcase Michael Becker ‘“We were able to hire all of the staff from the Saper Valu that wanted to come back,”? Wareham said. Stong’s opened up at the site after Super Valu closed its doors early August. Super Valu staff, many of them long-time employees at the Lynn Valley store, were un- sure whether or not they would be offered employment at the new store. But the new Stong’s took on 10 cashiers, three meat cutters, three meat wrappers, eight grocery clerks and two produce workers. A meat cutter, two cashiers and one produce manager went on to jobs at other Stong’s stores. But a lot has changed at the store besides the name. Said Wareham: ‘“‘We’ve painted it a lot brighter. The orange is now aa off-white. We've put in a deli counter, a fish counter, a bigger dairy case, a larger produce sec- tion, a solid wail of baked goods, a customer service counter at the front of the store and new check- out stands.”’ About 4,509 square feet of retail space, once dedicated to the ‘former Super Valu store, is ex- pected to open (pending zoning approval) as @ provincial liquor store by Nov. 1. Said Wareham: ‘People are glad to see the old staff back and they really like the store. We've had a fantastic reaction from everybody. It's been a good suc- cess so far.** Wareham takes on the job of Lynn Valley Stong’s store manager after working with the company for 15 years.
