The board voted last year to re- quire grade seven students on Bowen Island to attend secondary schools in the West Vancouver district, but overturned their deci- sion Monday night based on a report by superintendent Bill May. Students can still attend district secondary schools if their parents choose. A Bowen Island parent atten-- ding the board mecting said, ‘This option was supported overwhelm- ingly by the Bowen Island parents surveyed,”’ The Bowen Island Parents Association surveyed ail Bowen Island parents of children entering grade seven in 1987-88. But superintendeat Bill May said this option should be reviewed in April, 1988, and should continue only if it incurs no extra cost to the school district. Board member Margot Furk said the Bowen Island parents should be aware they are making a trade off — their children will not receive all the educational options offered by the secondary schools, bul they will remain in the semi- rural ambience of the island com- munity.
