Conference addresses abuse

HOW the North Shore community
should respond to suspected cases
of child a’ouse will be the topic of a
conferene next week at Lions
Gate Hespital.

The first session of Community
Responsibility for Child Abuse: A
North Shore Perspective takes
place Feb. 11 and 18 at the hospi-
tal’s Medical Day Centre.

This session will focus on basic
issues relevant to persons working
with young children.

On Feb. 11 topics to be discuss-
ed will include defining child abuse
and neglect, knowing the in-
dicators, responding to’ disclosure,
working with the abused child and

__ preventing child abuse.

On Feb. 18 topics include emo-
tional abuse, abusive and affec-
tionate touching, and normal child
sexual development.
