From May to September, over a dozen rafting outfit- ters provide adventure filled opportunities to experience the thrills of the province’s many wild rivers. Commercial white-water rafting came to British Col- umbia in 1972 when Cana- dian River Expeditions took thrill-seekers by raft down the Chilko, Chilcotin and Fraser rivers. This 11-day tnp is still the company’s maint- say, making up eight of its 15 trips scheduled for 1984. The others ‘include wilderness rafting trips in British Columbia’s north. The ‘‘Tat’’ expedition begins in Yukon Territory and drifts down the wild Tat- shenshini and Alsek rivers through British Columbia to the Pacific. On this 12-day journey, rafters pass through the St. Elias Mountain Range, one of the province's highest. In keeping with its special- ty of long trips, 10-day journeys over 280 kilometres (174 miles) of the ‘upper Skeena, ending at Hazelton, are available. In addition, there are 12-day expeditions on the upper Stikine. The rafters portage the Stikine’s wild Grand Canyon, putting back tn at historic Telegraph Creek.
