A PROVINCIAL Ministry of Education team into North Vancouver tomorrow to. hear rolls responses to_a-provincial government White Paper on secondary school graduation requirements. Senior staff from the Ministry will hear briefs Thursday evening at 7:30 at Carson Graham School in North Vancouver. Among those expected to present briefs are North Shore school boards, teachers’ associations and parents’ groups. The ministry is proposing a restructuring of the secon- dary school system to chan- nel graduating students into ore of three ‘‘streams’’ and to increase graduation re- quirements with a heavier ac- cent on mathematics and science courses. The three ‘‘streams’’ would be an arts and science program, a less academically~ weighted applied arts and science program and a career preparation program. The proposals have already been strongly criticized by. groups who fear the moves will lead to higher drop-rate and youth unemployment rates. Critics say that the pro- posal comes at a time when school districts are having BY CITY MONDAY Neighborhood House month proclaimed THE MONTH of May has been declared North Shore Neighborhood House Month by North Vancouver City Mayor Jack Loucks. ‘*Neighborhood House has served the City and the District well for over 30 years,’’ said Loucks in mak- ing the announcement. Established in 1939 to pro- vide social and recreational services to North Shore residents, Neighborhood House has become a part of the social fabric of the com. munity. It provides day care and services to. children, teens, adults, senior citizens and families. ‘“‘At the present time Neighborhood House is hav- ing a fund raising drive and | hope that anyone who can assist will do so,’’ Loucks said.
