A fresh start requires that one looks to oné’s failings and takes action to correct past mistakes. And so, New Year’s Resolutions on this, the first day of the year 1984, the Inquir- ing Reporter asks: “ ‘What are your New Year's res olutions: 2°" Alex Murchie North Vancouver My New Year’s resolution is not to make one. The fire was one of several minor blazes daring the holiday season. NORTH SHORE fire departments were busy over the Christmas holi- day weekend, but in a nice sort of way. Spokesmen for North Van- couver City, ‘North Van District and West Vancouver departments are. all reporting that the ‘holiday | passed without serious incident, despite the number of calls. In North Vancouver District, between midnight on Dec. 23 and midnight Dec. 27, they logged 31 calls. Seventeen of those were for such things as inhalators to the scene of accidents, eight were fire-related, two were false alarms, two were to deal with public hazards and two were public service calls. West Vancouver depart- ment was busier, handling 40 calls during the same period. “‘We had a raft of calls, mostly about broken water pipes,’’ said a spokesman. The most serious of the fires occurred when a man altemp- ting to thaw frozen water pipes with a propane torch set fire to the siding on his house.
