He enjoved dances and cow: boy movies ther: anf still does. He attended tleasant Hill elementary school and was active in school sports. Murray graduated from Saskatoon Technical School. Jobs were scarce or non-exis- tent so as a young man he joined the air force and went overseas in 1940 only to return home as an invalid in 1944. He retrained with a watch- makers course at a school in Toronto, While there Murray met Helen at a western dance. They married in June 1946, After graduation, Murray worked as a watchmaker for Stacys Jewelers i in Saskatoon, but his war injury forced him to leave this work. They moved to Vancouver in 1947 and Murray started another career in accounting by attending Shaw Business School, then joining a firm of public accountants. Vhe tollowing December, Murray joined the District of North Vancouver as an accounting clerk. During the ensuing vears with the dis- trict, he held the positions of tay collector, deputy treasurer and retired in 1976 as person nel director, the position he held for 12 vears.
