The following year the team moved to the Gold level where they have competed ever since. The Superstars have always been at, or near, the top of the league standings and have been in the Provincial Cup playoffs for the last five years. This will be their second trip to the provincial finals, Four years ago the. Superstars reached the Provincial “B” under- 15 finals butlost a close game tu the Langley Spitfires. On May 1, 1982, the Canucks defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3 in their first-ever May game en route to the Stanley Cup final; their best-ever post-season performance. The victory sealed an impressive undefeated season for the team, couched by Tim Murdy, Roger Hatch and Julio Decotiis. Fietding a smaller and younger team (average age of 17) the Caps had their backs against their goal- line carly as UVic threatened to draw first blood. But us they have done all sea- son, the North Shore squad stood firm und reversed the momentum, sending streaking backs down the sidelines to put the first points on the board. Going into the half, the Caps held a comfortable [2-5 lead, but injuries lo fullback Jamie Dasitva and winger Dave Soslovsky kept the team from overconfindence. But. strong defence — a corner- stune of the juniors’ success this season -— alowed ‘only one, UVic try in the second half, giving the Caps a 15-10 win. “TL knew we had a good chance avuinst them, but Ewas still pretty nervous,” Murdy said.
