History lives in Bisbee, Arizona _From page 30 are available through the Queen Mine ($4.50) and the Lavender Pit ($3). There are several museums, mostly dedicated to the preserva- tion of mining history. [ can do without those, but these are two I won't miss next visit: ¢Muheim Heritage House, a pioneer home. It’s open Friday to Monday from | to 4 p.m. We were there on the wrong day. « Miner’s Home Museum — this is an old residence as well. Unfor- tunately you need to make an ap- pointment to see it, tel: 432-5723. Next time I°ll call ahead, now that I know it exists. Visitors to Bisbee, especially those who don’t give a darn about mining or history, will be happy to know that there’s a golf course, tennis courts and swimming pools. There’s also several active ser- vice clubs and I’m told that winter visitors often take up temporary membership and are warmly wel- comed. It’s just a short drive from Bisbee through the border at Douglas to Agua Prieta, Mexico — budget gas and liquor, you know. I don’t know if this is the best recommendation I can give a town, but Bisbee has been voted one of the top 25 best places to retire in the whole U.S.A. by the American Association of Retired Persons. To balance that, I’m also told that it’s probably the best place in the en- tire country to raise a family. Our bar is stocked with the finest. Luscious watermelon. Crisp’ cantaloupe.
