sold at dockside

fresh and gourmet specialty
food stalls.

The market building
would include related retail
outlets and office accom-
modation. At the fishboat
harbor, located between the
restaurant the the market,
customers would be able to
buy fresh fish at the
dockside, direct from in-
coming seiners and gillnet-
ters.

Three years in the plann-
ing. the $4 million project

has now reached the point
where the developers hope
to be able to begin con-
struction by around January
1984, which could mean
completion by late next sum-
mer. ,
North Vancouver District
officials have indicated their
support in principle for the
concept and have already
reached an agreement with

the developers on the
subleasing of the land.
Formalities still to be

cleared include rezoning and
siting questions.

Architects for the project
are Bellprat Associates of
Vancouver.

Upgrading plan
shot down in WV

PETITIONERS in Newlands
Road, West Vancouver,
have effectively managed to
kill off a local improvement
scheme.

They presented their case
at last week’s meeting of
council's policy and planning
commitee.

The scheme was to have
been for road
reconstruction, new paving,
curbs and gutters” in
Newcroft Place, Newdale
Road, Newdale Place and
Newlands Road.

New storm sewers would
have been laid in Newdale
Road, Newdale Place and
Newlands Road.

But Newlands Road res-
dent Jean Elhou opposed tt.

In a written submission
condemning the original
peftion which had promoted
the plan, she stated “Coun

At Monday’s meeting she
was also sharply critical of
the late notice of the May 9
council meeting.

She told aldermen it had
not given opponents of the
scheme any time to in-
vestigate the details.

“It was passed before we
virtually knew what had hap-
pened,” she said.

Another opponent, D.
Drake of Newlands Road,
supported her, saying: “We
feel why should we par-
titicipate, or shall we say.
why should we be asked to
contribute to the storm
sewers these people up here

burden,” he added

Alderman Don = (Gonffiths
said he felt council should
not proceed with the plan as
there was reasonable doubt
whether or not. in fact. the
scheme had actually got the
required backing

hand will stop immediately
