MAILBOX Wednesday. June 19, 1991 - North Shore News - 7 Examine what the old-line parties have done Dear Editor: Over the past few months the old liane ‘political parties have fevelled many criticisms atthe Reform Party, To amo reluctantly foreed to the conclusion that all of these criticisms are justified. Let me review some of them. “The Reform Party has only simplistic solutions to offer.” 1 suppose this could be considered as a “simplistic criticism,’ but when you get down to it the Reform Party is ignoring reality by proposing solutions to the hor- rible mess our current batch of politicians have got us into. They should at Icast play the game pro- perly and concentrate their efforts on destructive criticisms of the other parties. Established parties know better, When faced with a difficult, question — appoint a commission. You won't get an answer, but at feast you can avoid the problem for a couple of years or more. The Reform Party is ‘sexist, elitist, and racist."* Sexist — yes, the only MP they have is a fe- male, clearly discrimination against males. Elitist — yes, they have the only elected senator. If this policy was generally adopted it would be disastrous. Where would all the tired out party hacks relite ta’? Racist. =~ obsicusty, thes want to treat all Canadians in the same way. ATP those groups Vnar currently enjoy special privi- leges would be deprived. How racist can you get? The Reform Party isn’t an “ex- treme right) wing organization."” Clearly 20% or more of the popu- lation of Engtish Canada are ex- treme right wingers, which is why the Reform Party has its present level of support. Presumably, however, if over 20% of the pop- ulation are extreme right wingers this should be balanced by over 20% of the population being ‘‘ex- treme Jeft) wingers.” 1 wonder Where their support goes? It's strange. } haven't come across the phrase ‘textreme left | wingers’’ much in the media. [ can see how the Reform Party earned this right wing label — they actually want fo balance ovr federal budget. They should be taking a lesson in creative financing from Ontario Premicr Bob Rae. If the Reform Party has its way “we can kiss Quebec goodbye.” Again they want to treat all pro- vinces equally. This is clearly unacceptable to Quebee. so the only situation has to be co give in to every demand Quebee makes. Then we can get ready to give in Cub pack thanks Super Valu Dear Editor: } would like to take this oppor- lunity to thank Super Valu #140, Park Royal South and specifically Ted WyHie for the generosity and support in helping the st West Vancouver-St. Stephen’s wolf cub pack prepare and shop for our 1991 cub camp weekend.
