This controversy would seem to be a question of the con- stitution and religion. One of the principles upon which this country was founded is that all people should be free to pursue (or not to pursue) their own faith. If one accepts this principle, it should follow that there be no inclusion of religious material in the curriculum of the public school system. Mr. Collins, on the other hand, feels that it is a matter of racial and cultural origin. He says the parents of non-Christian students should choose some country where they don’t feel uncomfortable. However he feels about people following non-Christian religions, he should keep in mind that there are people such as myself, who, despite being of European descent (a matter of indifference to me, but obviously not to Mr. Collins), are not Christian (nor followers of any other faith). We are quite happy with our country’s principle of not indoc- trinating our youth in our educa- tional institutions. If this makes Mr. Collins uncomfortable, perhaps he should choose some other country. Ed Spat North Vancouver Christian ethic makes land great to bring with them the very religious wars that they Dear Editor: Your columnist Doug Collins deserves complimen- ting on his many straight-to-the-point articles. We need more men of his calibre. His stand on our Christian heritage is so timely. Those in our education system who are doing thcir best to wipe out all traces of Christian teaching and ethics in our schools need to be severely reprimanded. The Christian ethic is what makes our land such a_ to. good place to live. It is vecause of our Christian-based laws and society as a whole that immigrants of all sorts want to come here to live. The trouble with these immigrants is that they want Bob Hamersley Nina Hamersley Greenwood are running away from, and make our country a bat- tleground worse than the one they have left. Doug Collins is a valuable asset to our society. I hope that the new sharcholders will not do anything to make the North Shore News the sar.e as the other papers in Vancouver. Surely the city aad district of BR. Our city hall claims there isn’t enough participation to warrant a depot. How do they arrive at that decision? I’ve been aware of the importance of recycling for years and can’t remember us having a depot in North Vancouver. Let’s get with it and join in the fight to clean up our mess. L.
