By MAUREEN CURTIS Contributing Writer Although the renters, whose homes are doomed to be torn down to make way for future ex- pansion of the waterfront park and seawalk, are fully aware of the temporary nature of their own tenancy, they resent the idea of be- ing replaced by the arts, theatre and dance groups that would be using the homes for working, Meeting and rehearsal space. The concept received approval in principle Jan. 9 from West Van- couver District Council. But a staff report detailing costs and other considerations was ordered after Ald. Rod Day ex- pressed concerns about the loss of Tental revenue and other costs that would xesult from implementing the scheme. Ald. Andy Danyliu was also worried that providing this space for local arts groups would postpone the building of a perma- nent facility. But Ald. Pat Boname denied this, and emphasized that such an arts facility is still required for West Vancouver. “We know how much the arts groups want a proper arts facility. But it’s going to take time,” Boname added.
