TV show features teen actress

FOR NORTH Vancouver’s Karen
Steinebach, seeing herself on TV is
something new.

“It’s a really different feeling,”
said Steinebach, 17, who plays
Michelle on the loca/ly taped teen
soap opera Fifteen, being shown
Sundays on BCTV.

Answering a cattle call — as a
casting call is known in the enter-
tainment industry — she landed

. the part, her second TV role fol-

lowing a small appearance as a
game show contestant in one
episode of 21 Jump Street last
season.

“It’s really nice when people
recognize you,’’ the green-eyed
blond said of her television ex-
posure. ‘‘It seems a lot of people
are enjoying (Fifteen)."’

The winner of the most promis-
ing actress award for last year’s
local Theatre B.C. finals,
Steinebach will be appearing in
Argyle’s Spoon River to Dec. 8.

Between school and her job as a
Safeway deli clerk, she goes to
auditions as much as possible, the
most recent being for a Calgary
food store commercial.

“You can have a really slow
month then have four auditions in
a month,”’ the 5’3”’ star hopeful
actress said of trying to break into

p.m. respectively; Dec. 8 will see
the North Shore group at Park
Royal’s south mall at 7 p.m., and
at the north mall Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.

Capilano Mall will host ‘the
singers Dec. 12 and 19 at 11 a.m.
both days.
