Three of the top 15 math ‘students in Canada attend «North Vancouver’s Hand- -sworth Secondary School. Peter McCorquodale, Philip Morse and Byron Watt, all grade 12 students - at Handsworth, were among the 7,175 students across the country who took part in the _ Euclid Math Contest. The Handsworth team was named Canadian team ‘champions. with 260 of a ‘possible 300 points. All three have teen asked to the an- nual mathematics seminar at the ‘University of Waterloo this ‘week, June 10 to 15. . The‘contest is.one of a’ ‘series: run by the Canadian Competition, * Mathematics administered by the Faculty of Mathematics of the Uni- versity of Waterloo. George Blumen, a Univer- sity of British Columbia professor and co-ordinator of the contest, said North Vancouver did particularly well. Three of the top 14 schools in Canada are in North Vancouver, said Blumen, naming Hand- sworth, Sutherland and Argyle. There were 790 schools in — the contest, 112-o0f them from B.C. Carson. Graham also did weil, placing 66th. Blumen said eight of the top 65 students in Canada attend North Vancouver public schools. The. contest gets the co- operation of each province.
