West Van was chosen this year as the honored city of the carnival which starts Feb. 5¢ the largest winter celebration in western Canada, run by 6,000 volunteers with proceeds going to community projects. (Eric Eggertson photo) ongtime NV residents mark Golden Wedding Two residents of North Vancouver for the past 63 years celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary January 23 when Reginald and Alice May Perkins were honored at a private family dinner at the Four Seasons Hotel in Vancouver. The celebrations con- tinued the following day with an open house in Coquitlam hosted by the Golden wedding couple's three sons, Raymond, Philip and Gary, and their wives. Dignitaries of the Masoni fraternity and the Shrine were among the guests on the latter occasion. Mr. and Mrs. Perkins, who settled in North Van in 1918, were married in St. Agnes Church, 12th and Boulevard. Messages of congratulations were received from Governor- General Ed Schreyer, Prime MR. To commemorate the Centre's 10th anniversary the Board of Directors of the North Shore Adult Day Care Services Society advises that in the future the North Shore Adult Day Care Centre will be known as “Margaret Fulton Centre.” North Vancouver District Mayor Don Bell will open the anniversary celebrations and officially announce this new name on Monday, February 1. Miss Fulton introduced the concept of adult day care and on Feb. 6, 1972, established the first centre in B.C. in the auditorium of St. Andrew's United Church. As a result of her vision and dedication hundreds of elderly and younger disabled persons and their canng families have benefited from this service. Many other adult day care centres have since been established in B.C. and adult day care is now an integral part of the provincial Ministry of Health's long term care program.
